For everyone else, it will explain the extra box that comes with each new system! -johnj ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - New, two-box country kit separates keyboard hardware from documentation to provide manufacturing efficiency and ordering flexibility - No change in ordering procedures for country kits - Same keyboard box for all platforms (except SLC/ELC), allowing resellers to better manage inventory - New, logical marketing part numbers for documentation kits - New international country kits to make ordering easier for international customers - Current "Keyboard Kits" (not country kits) to be discontinued As Sun's product line and distribution channels have become more complex, the existing one-box country kit has become increasingly difficult to manage both from a manufacturing perspective and a reseller perspective, requiring a unique box for every country kit. This can result in system shipment delays from the factory and can increase resellers' inventory carrying costs. To improve manufacturing efficiency and provide ordering flexibility to both end-users and resellers, Sun is moving to a two-box country kit which separates the "hardware" from the "documentation". The ordering procedures are unchanged, and the changes are transparent to the sales force, except that the customer will now get a two-box country kit instead of a one-box kit. One box, the "system accessory kit", contains all the hardware required to get started with the system, including: o Keyboard o Mouse o Pad o Keyboard cable o Power cords o Video cable o Welcome kit o Keyboard card The other box, the "country documentation kit" contains all the documentation the user needs, including: o Owner's set o Deskset reference guide o Quick configuration card Also in conjunction with this change, the "Keyboard Kits" listed on the accessories section of the price list are being discontinued. NEW FEATURES AND BENEFITS ------------------------- FEATURES BENEFITS ======== ======== Separate boxes for keyboard Reduces manufacturing rework hardware and documentation during OS transitions and other changes to country kit; reduces manufacturing overhead, leading more competitive manufacturing and lower prices in the long run. Same "system accessory kit" box Reduces probability of shipment for all platforms (except the SLC/ delays resulting from not having ELC family) the correct country kit box. Increases reseller satisfaction by allowing them to use the same system accessory kit for any system, and not needing the exact country kit for each system for each country. No change in ordering procedures No new ordering procedures for country kits to learn; sales can continue doing things the way they are done today. Logical "country documentation kit" Consistent part numbering scheme marketing part numbers between country kits and documentation kits, simplifying the ordering process. New international country kits Simplifies ordering procedures for countries that didn't until now have country kits. All countries that have unique keyboards now have their own country kits.
