European Solaris 2.1 consists of English, French, German, Italian, and Swedish. The European Solaris 2.1 Media Kit consists of a multilingual CD-ROM disc and a localized Installation Guide for single or multiple language installations. In addition to the European Solaris 2.1 Media Kit, translated Solaris 2.1 End User Documentation can be purchased separately. The multilingual Solaris 2.1 CD-ROM disc contains a localized Operating System and Graphic User Interface. The CD also contains localized software message files, localized ASCII spot help files, and localized AnswerBook on-line End User documentation. FEATURES AND BENEFITS --------------------- Translated software and documentation: o Ease of use for non-English speaking users who can more easily learn and use Sun products. o Helps Sun comply to local country and government standards. Translated Help system: o Help messages translated into local languages more clearly directs non-English speaking users. World wide product availability: o Minimize training costs for multinational companies through product consistency. Operating System and Graphic User Interface translated: o Non-English speaking users can more easily navigate through menu items, help screens, error messages and Deskset tools. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE CONSIDERATIONS ------------------------------------ In terms of hardware support, the localized versions of Solaris 2.1 are no different than the English version of Solaris 2.1 which specifically supports: Sun-4c architecture SPARCstations 1, 1+, 2, IPC IPX, SLC and ELC Sun-4m architecture SPARCclassic, SPARCstation LX, SPARCstation 10, SPARCstation 600MP Series Sun-4(TM) architecture Sun-4/100s, -4/200s, -4/300s and -4/400s Sun4e architecture SPARCengine(TM) board Q & A ----- Q. What languages are available today? A. Solaris 2.1 is now available in French, German, Italian, Japanese and Swedish. By the end of this month, Solaris 2.1 will also be available in Korean, Chinese (for China), and Chinese (for Taiwan). Q. Is Solaris 2.1's documentation localized? A. Yes, users can access AnswerBook on-line End User Documentation which is included with the European Solaris 2.1 Media Kit. Or, users can purchase, separately, the hard copy End User Documentation Set. Q. Do I have to purchase a separate European Solaris 2.1 User license? A. European customers purchasing hardware systems beginning January 1, 1993, receive a European Solaris 2.x license as part of their hardware "bundle". Customers outside of Europe and European customers who purchased hardware systems before January 1, 1993 need to purchase the European Solaris upgrade license - in addition to the European Solaris Media Kit. Q. Are the localized versions of Solaris 2.1 available in the United States? A. Yes, localized European products are available world wide. Sun conducts business with many multinational companies around the world who require our multilingual products. Q. Does more than one language come with the localized Solaris Media Kit? A. Yes, when you order the European version of Solaris 2.1 you will receive a CD-ROM disc that has English, French, German, Italian, and Swedish Solaris media and Answerbook End User Documentation. The End User Documentation Sets, however, are language specific - each language documentation set must be ordered separately. Q. Can I upgrade my current English Operating System to a localized version of Solaris 2.1? A. Yes, you can upgrade from any language and any version of SunOS or Solaris 1.x / 2.x to the Solaris 2.1 European localizations. Yes, with European Solaris 2.1, users can select different languages via OpenWindows Version 3's Properties you can simultaneously use the Deskset in several different European languages. Q. Is Japanese Solaris 2.1 available world wide? A. Japanese, as well as Korean, Chinese (for Taiwan), and Chinese (for China), Solaris 2.1 will begin shipping outside of Japan next month via Software Specials.
