---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Florida SunFlash PRICE WATERHOUSE BECOMES SUN COMMERCIAL SYSTEMS INTEGRATOR SunFLASH Vol 31 #12 July 1991 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. --July 17, 1991-- Price Waterhouse has signed an agreement to act as a Sun Microsystems commercial systems integrator, selling workstations, servers and software from Sun to major commercial customers. At least $5 million in sales of Sun products are expected the first year, underscoring the growing demand for Sun's UNIX(R)-based solutions in non-technical markets. Initial target markets include banking, portfolio management, commercial lending, legal, manufacturing, insurance and property management. "Our customers are requesting open systems and Sun is the leading player in that market," said David Birch, senior manager of the Open and Relational Systems (ORS) group at Price Waterhouse. ORS, formed in July 1990 to provide open systems solutions, currently accounts for 10 percent of the company's consulting business. ORS is Price Waterhouse's fastest-growing segment with revenue that is expected to double by 1992. In addition to Price Waterhouse, Sun also works with Andersen Consulting, EDS and other "Big Six" consulting firms. Relationships with top commercial integrators are part of Sun's strategy to leverage the contacts and industry application expertise of these commercial firms. According to Birch, his firm's strengths -- employing databases and providing easy, quick access to information for mission-critical solutions -- complement those of Sun. "Our customers can really take advantage of Sun's high-performance database servers, powerful desktops and top-notch networking," he added. As a Sun integrator, Price Waterhouse will receive sales and technical support, such as account referrals, training, discounts and application porting and prototype development assistance. In addition, Price Waterhouse will have access to marketing support from Sun, including trade show assistance, participation in joint sales seminars, promotion programs and joint public relations efforts. Price Waterhouse's ORS Development and Demonstration centers, featuring Sun and other equipment vendors, currently operate in Washington, D.C., New York, Dallas and San Francisco. Price Waterhouse has been providing consulting services for more than 40 years and has developed a nationally recognized reputation, offering a broad range of management, financial and information technology consulting services to multi-national corporations and government organizations. The Price Waterhouse worldwide network gives the company the ability to assist customers facing the complexities and challenges of enterprise-wide information solutions. Sun Microsystems is the world's leading supplier of client-server computing solutions. Used for many demanding commercial and technical applications, Sun's products command the largest share of the computer industry's fastest-growing market segment: workstations and servers. The company, founded in 1982 and headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., is a multi-billion dollar corporation doing business in at least 80 countries worldwide. ### UNIX is a registered trademark of UNIX System Laboratories, Inc.
